Hippo Hill Lodge is the only tented camp in the Queen Elizabeth National Park, opened in September 2006. The camp is in the buffer zone of Queen Elizabeth National Park-Katwe town, of which just a drive through the park is quite impressive.
The camp is well built on a hill overlooking Kitako- and Kabazimu Islands, and surrounded by lakes with flamingos and hippos. The extraordinary landscape of the crater lakes was created by volcanic activities some 8000 to 10 000 years ago.
The camp blends into its natural surroundings to enable visitors to feel part of the wildness. There are 14 wooden cabins with private toilets and hot showers. All the cabins are fully furnished and provide a perfect setting for relaxation. From the seclusion of your veranda, you can watch the wild animals descend from the hill for water and food.
There is a spacious dining area and a well-stocked bar in an elevated position, above the salt lake. The delicious food competes with the distractions of hippos and flamingos at the lake. Enjoy an early night around the camp fire, chatting to other tourists and listening to different animals and birds.
