Situated approximately 2500m above sea level Tenahead Lodge is the highest up- market lodge in South Africa. The only one of its kind, the lodge is hand build by stone masons, Basotho style from rocks and stone collected from the area. The natural, rustic look that the local stone has created blends into the environment, hiding its luxurious interior. This spectacular lodge has 7 grand, en-suite bedrooms with open fireplaces which are lit throughout the snowy winter. Each is beautifully furnished for comfort and luxury. Large double glazed windows grace a single wall of each bedroom, framing panoramic views of the awesome mountains and valleys. The bedrooms all have a stocked bar fridge, tea and coffee facilities, satellite television and a satellite phone. The bathrooms are fitted with both a shower and a bath. All the spacious living areas of the lodge are warmed by open fireplaces and have been stylishly decorated. The Lodge has three lounges, a breakfast room, main dining room and library. The library houses approximately 2000 books which have been carefully hand selected on subjects regarding the history of South Africa, travel and wildlife. There are two wooden decks where lunches and sundowners can be enjoyed, weather permitting. The reception area has a curio shop, stocked with a variety of African art (Xhosa and Basotho) as well as local art sourced from the area. Tenahead has a wine cellar which is stocked with some of South Africa’s finest wines. A large selection of both red and white wines is available. The lodge does not have a bar counter as such, but guests will be served from the substantial well stocked bar cabinet. The lodge’s indigenous garden and natural water feature is crafted and cultivated from the alpine flora and materials directly from the surrounding mountains, blending in beautifully with the natural environment. | |
