Located at De Kelders, Walker Bay opposite Hermanus on the Whale Coast, the Whale Sanctuary Lodge is a truly unique destination. Comprising only six private, en suite rooms, this modern, but homely lodge is, as its name implies, a sanctuary from the frenetic pace of daily life. Built virtually on the Walker Bay shoreline, every room at the Whale Sanctuary Lodge offers breathtaking sea views and unsurpassed luxury.

Here the sound of the sea is your alarm clock, carried to you each day by a crisp ocean breeze. Even the whales can't resist this place and flock in their droves to spend the winter months basking in the calm, clear waters as they welcome their young into the world.

In-house Restaurant
Situated right next door to the Whale Sanctuary Lodge is our in-house restaurant. The warm and cosy wood-built restaurant offers a selection of mouth-watering dishes in a setting that will make you want to linger and relax over a bottle of wine, long after you've finished your meal. The restaurant comprises a small, intimate main seating area, but also has two completely separate dining rooms to cater for private functions, conferences as well as business lunches and dinners.

The massive wooden deck that opens off the main eating area has views over the bay that will take your breath away, and is the perfect setting for an indulgent afternoon in the warm sun, with the whales and the sound of the ocean as company.

The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner booking is essential. Be sure to try the chef's delicious original Cape Malay lamb curry. It's a true taste of the Cape.

Whale watching
Whales. The very word ignites the imagination and conjures up images of these massive and mysterious creatures loved the world over as the gentle giants of the deep. At the Whale Sanctuary Lodge, you can choose to watch these magnificent creatures from the vantage point of your private balcony, or head off to the waters edge and experience the pure thrill of seeing a whale eye-to-eye as it coasts lazily by - no more than a few metres from you.

Shark Cage Diving
Discover the grace and beauty of some of the world's most feared and misunderstood creatures. A short drive from the Whale Sanctuary Lodge lies Kleinbaai, the shark cage diving Mecca of South Africa. Spend a morning under the water communing with spectacular Great White sharks or keep your feet firmly planted aboard the boat and watch these magnificent creatures go about their daily business. Either way, it is an experience you won't soon forget.

Cave exploration
De Kelders gets its name from the many breathtaking caves that line its shores. These once played home to the Khoisan people who inhabited the area, but now are yours to explore. Take a leisurely walk along the rocky coastline and explore the caves for yourself, or join one of the interesting guided tours that are offered during the whale season.

• Full payment is required 30 days prior to arrival
• We have the right to request deposits or full payment in advance in the case of large groups, long stays, peak periods or high occupancy
• For bookings made within 30 days of travel, full payment is required on confirmation of the booking.
